Session on Neonatal Diseases

Neonatology disease is existing before birth or at the time of birth or even develop during the first month of the infant. The maternal health factors such as high Body-mass index and external pollution could also affect the infant’s immune system and leads to the invading of Neonatal disease. Neonatal disease such as,

I. Perinatal Asphyxia: There is a lack of oxygen during the birth process. It may lead to seizures, kidney failure, heart failure

II. Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia: It is a chronic lung disease in premature infants. The lung and bronchi are affected during the neonatal period and lead to dysplasia.

III. Hyperbilirubinemia: It is a condition in which there is more amount of bilirubin in the blood. It is caused by the mother’s immune system produced antibodies against the infant's blood type.

IV. Neonatal Respiratory diseases Syndrome/Hyaline membrane diseases: If the lungs are not fully developed it may lead to Respiratory distress syndrome or Hyaline Membrane disease.

Session on Neonatal Infection

Neonatal Infections is a stream of Neonatology. Neonatal infections of the new-born. It may occur during prenatal development or before the first month after birth. During birth, if the child swallowed the body fluids, bacteria or viruses may affect the new-born’s immune system and leads to neonatal infections. Sepsis is the most common neonatal infection in the field of Neonatology. It is a blood or bloodstream infection and It can be caused by bacteria (Escherichia coli, Listeria).

Session on Neonatal Syndromes

Neonatal Syndromes are a group of symptoms occur together and affect the health of infants. The infants affected by syndromes will suffer at their early or later stage in their lives.

I. Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome:

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome is a group of condition. When a baby is exposed to addictive opiate drugs while in the mother’s womb may lead to the NAS. Mostly the problems occur at the later stages of life.

II. Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome:

Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome is caused by intrauterine blood transfusion from one twin to another twin. TTTS mostly occurs when the blood transfer between identical twins with the common monochorionic placenta.

Session on Neonatal Heart Disease

The heart abnormality in the new-born may lead to Congenital Heart disease. It may affect the heart walls, valves and blood vessels of the infant. Congenital heart disease is a common Neonatal cardiac disease. New-borns are affected with the Congenital heart disease are symptomatic and the disease could be identified after birth. If there is any delay in diagnosis may lead to high-risk to increase the mortality rate.

Session on Neonatal Medicines

After birth, Infants have an immature immune system, it leads them to high risk for infection. Neonatal vaccination meant to avert a sickness in infants. Vaccines, such as Hepatitis B-vaccine (HBV), Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG), Rotavirus vaccine (RV) can evoke protective neonatal responses.
